Permaculture Principles & Design in the Garden
March 11, 2017 -- 1:30pm
Where: Westboro Masonic Hall, 430 Churchill Ave, Ottawa
Hosted by: Ottawa Valley Rock Garden & Horticultural Society
What can Mother Nature teach us about rock gardening? In permaculture (ecological design), we aim to mimic Nature. We draw on simple principles from the natural world, which include: working with Nature, starting small and slow, emphasising multiple functions, creating positive redundancy, promoting beneficial relationships and more. When designing gardens, we observe and work with what is there: sun/shade and wind; slope and water; zones of activity; and soil conditions. Learn about permaculture principles, some basic design considerations, and examples of how to apply these in our gardens. Join us for this engaging session, which includes a slide presentation, a question and answer period, and a brief group discussion.
