Permaculture Ottawa joins with the Torbolton Institute, Canada Nutist, the Urban Agriforest Canada Project to present the Permaculture Ottawa Urban Treenuts Processing Workshop 2013, hosted by Friends of Torbolton Institute.
Show and tell about processing tree nut crops harvested from landscape trees growing in Ottawa's urban agroforest. Nuts, equipment, storage, cracking, husking, hulling, recipes, uses, web sources, literature, and more. The workshop will prepare people to harvest and use Ottawa tree nuts, starting this crop year.

Many species of edible treenuts grow in Ottawa. Black Walnut, Red Oak, Burr Oak, Butternut, Ginkgo, Korean Nut Pine, Swiss Stone Pine, American Chestnut, Beaked Hazel, Turkish Hazel, Filbert, Buckeyes, Horsechestnut, Beech, Japanese Walnut, Heartnut, Shagbark Hickory, and Bitternut Hickory are among the more obvious species.
